On March 25, 2009, Continental Airlines inaugurated its non-stop flight
service from New York to Shanghai. The airline also became the first US carrier
servicing
non-stop route between two largest financial and trade centers as well as
most popular tourist destinations in the world, providing business
travelers and international tourists with great travel
conveniences.
According to a news release from Xinhua,
Continental Airlines will operate this nonstop flight daily with a Boeing 777-200 aircraft.
Flight 87 is scheduled to depart Newark Liberty International Airport
(EWR) at 11:20am and arrive at Shanghai Pudong International
Airport (PVG) at 1:45pm the next day.
Flight 86 is scheduled to return from Shanghai at 3:45pm, arriving at
Newark Liberty International Airport at 6:20pm the same day. Total flying time
is estimated at 14 hours and 30 minutes each way.
The departing time of Flight 87 and arrival time of Flight 86 are both convenient
for travelers to make necessary connections at Continental's New York hub to
over sixty different destinations throughout the United States and Canada.
Continental Airlines started its daily non-stop services from New York
to Hong Kong in 200, and added New York to Beijing route in 2005.
With the inauguration of New York to Beijing flight services,
Continental Airlines become the only airlines providing non-stop
services between New York and three major cities in China.
This new addition of non-stop air route between New York and Shanghai
is of great significance. Shanghai will be the host city for 2010 World
Expo. The demand for flight services between the United States,
particularly New York City, and Shanghai is expected to increase
significantly.
