Scam 7
- "Official Bank Website Maintenance Notice" or "Bank Security Alert"
This scam technique is aimed at stealing recipient's bank information.
Scammers massively sent out emails with toxic links and hope to trap the
recipients who do have banking business with the specified bank to
voluntarily give out their bank information through the toxic links.
An actual email representing this category of
scam and fraud in its entirety is displayed below. In fact, it is not
very difficult to determine the legitimacy of such email. In the email
below, when right clicking on the link to reveal its property, you will
find out right away that the link will take you to a weird and highly
suspicious web address, which is
http://commercial.wachovia.online.financial.service.procedure.la.
Other hyperlinks coming with similar emails may install a software in
your computer, from which scammers could steal additional information
from your computer.
It is advised that you should carefully check the real resources of any
emails coming from financial institutions. Don't give out your bank
information unless you are hundred percent sure the email does come your
bank and the links contained in the email will take you to the official
site of your bank. Stay alert!
