Scam 8
- "Popular Carrier's Shipping Status Notification"
This scam technique is aimed at stealing recipient's information and
identities such as bank card numbers, usernames and passwords from
their computers.
Scammers massively sent out emails with toxic attachments and hope to trap those
recipients who do did use the specified carrier recently.
An actual email representing this category of
scam and fraud in its entirety is displayed below. After stating a
non-delivery status, the email further instructs the recipient to open
an attached small zip file to print an invoice. In most cases, an exe
file will follow after being unzipped. This exe file will install a
piece of software in your computer to steal your information.
It is not
very difficult to determine the legitimacy of such email, either. In the email
below, the email address that the scammer used to send the email is
nothing to do with the Carrier, DHL International, Ltd.
It is advised that you should carefully check the real resources of any
emails that appear abnormal. Don't open any attachments unless you
are hundred percent sure the email came from the carrier you have used
to ship your package. Always stay alert!
