In China, the Public Security Bureau, equivalent to the police
department in general term, is responsible for public safety. Therefore,
whenever you are facing an emergency situation, call police immediately.
If you lose something of value, you need to immediately notify the hotel
you are staying, your tour guide or the police.
If your find your credit cards or traveler's checks missing or being
stolen, contact the issuer as soon as possible to request a cancelation.
If you find yourself in a seriously dangerous situation, you might also
contact your embassy or consulate for assistance.
If you lost your passport, you should file a report with the local
police department and at the same time, notify the nearest embassy or
consulate of your home country in China. In order to get a new visa from
the Chinese authorities, a police report is required.
For any emergencies happened in the hotel you are staying, you should
contact hotel staff for assistance and dial 110 for the police, 119 for
fire department or 120 for ambulance.
How to use 110
After being connected with 110, you will firstly hear a prompt in both
Chinese and English, saying "Hello, here is 110 alarm service", then an
operator will come on line to talk to you. You need to answer a series
of questions asked by the operator, including your name, your location,
your contact number and basic information on the incident. In general,
you should remain at the location where you called the emergency line
and wait for police officers to arrive. You should keep the emergency
scene untouched so that the officers can acquire evidences. If you dial
110 by accident, please hang up immediately.
