Beijing is China's second largest city after Shanghai and has the
blended cultures of both historical deposits and modernizations in
the late of the 20th century.
There are virtually uncountable number of the tourist attractions in
Beijing due to city's long evolutionary history and capital nature for
many dynasties. If you only have time to visit one city in China, the
first consideration should be given to Beijing.
Beijing is also a major transportation hub, with dozens of
railways, roads and motorways passing through the city. It is also the
focal point of many international flights to China.

Great Wall
The Great is one of the "Eight Wonders of the World" enlisted in the World Heritage Directory. This immense wall was built to keep out invaders as well as to retain the inhabitants.
The Great Wall extends about 2587 miles and passes through five
different provinces from Shanhaiguan in the east to Jiayuguan in the west.
Just like a gigantic dragon, the great wall winds up and down across deserts, grasslands and mountain.
According to the historical record, the entire Great Wall was
constructed completely with man power. It is said the great wall is the
only man made structure that is visible from the from the moon. The
segment of the Great Wall inside Beijing city, namely the Badaling Great
Wall, is one of the best preserved segments. You can enjoy a splendid panoramic view that
will be in your memory forever.
Forbidden City
The Forbidden City consist of a group of magnificent empire palaces and
structures. With 9,999 rooms in its flourishing time, the Forbidden City is the largest and best preserved
imperial palace complex in the world. The Forbidden City is fenced by
a solid brick wall measured six meter deep and ten-meter high. For as
long as five centuries, this palace compound had functioned as the administrative center of the country,
and also served as the residence of the dozens of emperors and empresses of
the Ming and Qing dynasties. As for foreign tourists, we believe the forbidden city
are among the "must see" places.
Imperial Tombs
Beijing had been the capital city of many dynasties in the ancient
China's history, including Yuan, Ming and Qing, so there left a number
of large scale imperial tombs and great royal mausoleums, among which the Ming Tombs
are best preserved and have gained significant international attentions.
Beside the Ming Tombs, the Eastern Qing Tombs and Western Qing Tombs,
located in the suburbs of Beijing, also received certain worldwide
recognitions.
Temple
of Heaven
The are hundreds of beautiful temples with different ages and styles in
Beijing. These temples have at one time served as the focus of religious life. The Temple of Heaven is the largest
temple discovered so far in
the country. The Temple of Heaven is a group of structures that are dedicated to rituals that pay homage to the glory of heaven. This temple was built
during the Ming and Qing dynasties, specifically for worship of heaven
by the prayers praying for good harvests. There are two amazing acoustical spots in the temple. Originally built in the 1500's, there is a spot on top of the tri-leveled round altar where your words reverberate around you. The other one is at the Echo Wall that partially encloses a circular courtyard
of 213 feet in diameter. Words whispered at one end will travel along the wall and can be heard clearly by someone listening at the other end. The entire
Heaven Temple complex is a great exhibition of the treasures
of the
ancient Chinese arts and architectural designs.
Summer
Palace
Situated in the western outskirts of Haitian District, the Summer Palace is 15 kilometers from central Beijing. Having the largest royal park and being well preserved, it was designated in 1960 by the State Council as a
national key cultural relics protection site of China. Containing examples of the ancient arts,
the Summer Palace also has graceful landscapes and magnificent
constructions. The Summer Palace is the archetypal Chinese garden, and
is ranked amongst the most notable and classical gardens in the world. In 1998, it was
enlisted as one of the World Heritage Sites by UNESCO.
Other historical attractions that may interest you include: the Temple
of Confucius in honor of and sacrifice to Confucius; the Great Bell
Temple, Niujie Mosque built in 996; Yonghe Lamasery, the largest and the
best preserved lamasery in today’s China; Bell and Drum Towers built in
the 1400's; the Ancient Observatory that dates back to the days of
Kublai Khan; Liulichang Street of Chinese Culture, a gathering, market
and exchange place for people who are interested in Chinese calligraphy,
painting and other artworks; Beihai park, a site built by the Great
Khan, centuries earlier than the Forbidden City; Shichahai Park;
Jingshan Park; Lugou Bridge; the Old Summer Palace, known as the Ruins of
Yuanming Garden; and a tour of Beijing's old Hutong, meaning "small
street" in translation. |

Tiananmen Square
The Tiananmen Square, solemn and respectful center in China, is the largest central city
square e
in the world. The Tiananmen Square serves as not only the
symbol of Beijing but also China as whole. This immense courtyard has
also been the site of many historical events. Surrounded the square are
various important contemporary landmark buildings in Beijing, including
the Chinese Revolution History Museum, Chairman Mao's Mausoleum, the Great Hall
of the People. Several ancient
structures are also located on the sides of the square, including Tiananmen
or Heavenly and Peace Gate Tower and the Qianmen or the Front Gate in
translation. The flag raising and lowing ceremonies are held daily at the square,
synchronizing with sunrise and sunset. These events attract thousands of
tourists from all around the world.
Olympic Park
- Bird Nest and Water Cube
Beijing Olympic Park will, according to plan, be made the largest comprehensive community of Beijing after the 2008 Olympic Games conclude. Multi-functional, combining business and trade, office, exhibition, sports, exposition and entertainment in one, the park will become a city part in token of Beijing's urban construction in the new century.
How will Beijing map out its Olympic Park? How will it be made on blueprint heart of Beijing's "second capital"? All of these have called worldwide attention.
No matter what the park is going to be, two major structures in the park, the
Bird Nest and Water Cube, have made a history in the areas of architectural
designs and construction, and become important attractions in the modern
settings in Beijing.

National Center for the Performing Arts
Located immediately to the west of the Tiananmen Square and the Great Hall of
the People, The National Center for the Performing Arts, formerly known as the National Grand Theater, and colloquially described as The Egg, is an opera house in Beijing. The Center, an ellipsoid dome of titanium and glass surrounded by an artificial lake, seats 6,500 people in three halls and is 200,000 square meter in size. It was designed by French architect Paul Andreu. Construction started in December 2001 and the inaugural concert was held in December 2007.
Since its inauguration, the National Center for the Performing Arts have
attracted tens thousands of tourists, making itself a new and hot attraction in
the modern setting.
Beijing Happy Valley
Located in the southeast corner on the fourth ring road in Chaoyang District,
Beijing Happy Valley is one of the largest theme parks in China. Covering an area of
one million square meters, it has been open to tourists since 2006 and attracted a lot of visitors from home and abroad.
The valley consists of six sublevel theme parks, including Firth Forest, Atlantis, Aegean Sea, Lost Maya, Shangri-La and Ant Kingdom. More than 50 scenic sights,
showing the culture and ecology of the greater China, are spreading all
over the valley to offer visitors rare opportunities to experience the charm of various civilizations regardless of
space and time distances.
Other attractions in modern settings include: Xiangshang Park, where
beautiful red maple leaf can be seen in the fall; Beijing Zoo; Beijing
Botanic Garden; Grand View Garden, purported to be a model mansion in a
famous novel; and Beijing World Park, comprised of the miniature
reproductions of many symbolic attractions of different countries. |
