There are plenty of trains transporting passengers to and from most of the major cities inside China. Located at the center of China, it often takes one day to travel from Xian to other cities by train. Keep in mind
that train tickets usually are very hard to get so you need to book
early in advance.
Traveling by train in regular class cabin, or hard seating in Chinese, means you will share a small
booth with up to three other locals. They may smoke, snore, or watch portable
TV's while you try to sleep. Do not by regular tickets if you are uncomfortable with these things.
Instead, you should book tickets for VIP cabins, or soft beds in
Chinese. Xian Train Station is located at the north end of Jiefang Lu
(解放路).
Approximate journey times to other major cities:
Xian - Beijing 11-13 hours
Xian - Chengdu 13-18 hours

Xian - Chongqing 14 hours
Xian - Guangzhou 24 hours
Xian - Kunming 36-53 hours
Xian - Lanzhou 8-10 hours
Xian - Lhasa 36 hours
Xian - Shanghai 16-20 hours
Xian - Urumqi 31-56 hours
ian - Wuhan 14-18 hours and
Xian - Zhengzhou 7 hours
It is very easy for tourists to get to the railway station in Xian. There are
many bus routes leading up to Xian train station. However, please be aware that there are several
bus stops around the train station. Fortunately, all of those bus stops are no
more than 200 meters away from the entrance. |
